Search Engine Optimization - An OverviewSlide7 by doggy00123

The number one question asked of me, by people doing business online, is how do I take advantage of search engine optimization?

The easiest way for me to explain search engine optimization is to first give you an overview of how search engine's work. While all optimization techniques should take all major search engines into consideration, the reality is that you are trying to optimize your website for Google. This is by far the best investment of your time and efforts.

SEO has an impact on search engine rankings. What you are doing is controlling where your site ranks for a given search term or search phrase. Most people feel that having this control is not fair or is somehow changing search engines in a less-than-perfect way. In fact SEO allows you to focus the search engine, with pinpoint accuracy, on your blog or website. It is true that people try to manipulate the system but with all good things comes a sprinkling of seedy individuals. Because of the high stakes game of Internet marketing, some are pron to challenge the boundaries and to do things that might be inappropriate.

So what is SEO? SEO is simply a technique applied to websites and blogs to influence the ranking on major search engines. To give an example, when someone goes to Google and types in a word like "potato chips" that will find a listing, or results, but a search engine algorithm has determined it's relevance to the search term "potato chips".

So how does a search engine determine what words or listings are relevant to these words or listings? This is where search engine optimization comes into play. Even though each search engine has its own unique algorithm to determine which sites are truly relevant to the search terms entered, Internet marketers have determined a common formula that applies to all search engines.

Of course everyone wants to know what is the one single thing they can do to improve their website rankings in the search engines. To be honest, there is no one thing that will affect your ranking. SEO is extremely complex and there are many factors that go into determining the overall ranking of your website. Even though this may be the case, there are a number of rules you can use that will positively impact your ranking in the search engines. This is what, we know as SEO best practices. These rules are widely published all over the internet and are essential for top placement of your website in search engine results. If you are looking for help for search engine optimization you need only too google SEO.

So how do you know what advice is good and what is bad? That's easy, just look and see if the author can back up his claims. Any Internet marketer worth his salt would have links to common examples and testimonials. What you are looking for is results.

For anyone who is doing business online, I strongly recommend spending some time on getting to know S EO. It is one of the most important things you can learn to improve your ranking on search engines and thus improving your chances to succeed on the World Wide Web.
